Accessibility
If you have any specific communication needs or require any extra support to access the practice, please let our staff know so that we can help and ensure you get the same support in the future.
Accessible information standards
The Accessible Information Standard tells organisations how they should make sure that disabled patients receive information in formats that they can understand and receive appropriate support to help them to communicate. All organisations that provide NHS or adult social care must follow the Accessible Information Standard by law. These standard include making sure that people get information in different formats if they need it, such as: large print, braille, easy read, email etc.
Further information can be found on NHS England’s website.
Please let the surgery know if you require any communication or information support needs.
We will provide an advocate if you require one.

At Newbridge Surgery we will:
- Ask if you have any information or communication needs, and find out how to meet your needs. We will do this on the registration form when you join the practice. There will also be information on the patient TV screen in the waiting area
- Record your needs on the electronic patient record (called SystmOne)
- Flag in the electronic patient record, so it is clear that you have information or communication needs and how you wish us to meet your needs
- Share information about your needs with other providers who we refer you to so that they can also communicate effectively with you
- Act to make sure that you receive your information in an accessible way and we will provide communication support if you need it.
We will provide a British Sign Language (BSL) interpreter or an advocate if you require one.
If English is not your first language, a telephone interpretation service can be used.
Blind/Partially Sighted
If you or family members are blind or partially sighted we can give you a large print of our practice leaflet upon request. Please ask reception for further information.
For more advice and support for blind people please see the following websites:
Deaf/Hearing Loss
We have a loop induction system at the reception desk to assist the hearing impaired. For more information on the loop hearing system visit Hearing Link website.

If you are a confident reader, we can use Google Transcribe to write what the clinician is saying during your consultation. This is particularly helpful if you rely on lip reading whilst face coverings are worn.
Appointments can be made through online booking or you can contact us via email on BSWICB.newbridge@nhs.net , however this method of communication is not appropriate for urgent enquiries as emails are not monitored out of hours or at weekends and there may be some delay in the working day.
Disabled Parking – Blue Badge Scheme
The Blue Badge scheme is for people with severe mobility problems. It allows Blue Badge holders to park close to where they need to go.
The surgery does not have dedicated Blue Badge parking.
If you think you are eligible for a Blue Badge, please discuss this with your GP.
Guide or Assistance Dogs
Official assistance dogs are welcome at the surgery but we ask that you be aware of other patients and staff who may have an allergy or fear of dogs.
